Davis/Kitcat written “Whenever Never Comes“ originally written and recorded by “Gracious“ during their 1969 sessions with Tim Rice and Nick Ingram for Norrie Paramour, “Whenever Never Comes“ was picked up by Paramour and released by “Diana” in 1970.

The album was a huge step up in songwriting, featuring 3 lengthy descriptive pieces, “Heaven“, “Hell“, and “The Dream“. The band had included the mellotron at the time though the compositions heavily featured a mix of electric and acoustic piano, organ, and harpsichord to build atmosphere. Sandys vocal range on the album is a mix of theatric climaxes and lush vocal harmonies.

Tim Rice involved Sandy (Paul) after working with him with Gracious. Sandy sang the part of Peter on the original concept album for tracks “The Arrest“ and “Peters Denial“. Sandy was offered the role of Peter in the film adaptation but turned it down to focus on his solo career.

Originally titled “Super Nova”, the album features a better production being a 16 track recording at Olympic studios during Autumn 1970, featuring the 25-minute suite Super Nova; the tale of a space traveller returning to his home planet, destroyed in a supernova.

The title track “Inside Every Fat Man“ features Alan Cowderoy on guitars. “Show a Little Love” was offered Andy Williams though he wanted to alter the lyrics.

Written and recorded with Paul Travis during 1975 at Mayfair Studios. On a paper-thin budget, the duo plays most instruments. Trevor Vallis, engineer and co-producer plays Bass on the album.

The album was initially a deal made by Johnny Stirling, Sandys manager at the time. By the time the album was completed and on shelves, the “Roobarb“ series was discontinued.

“Headwaiter” saw Sandy returning to progressive rock music, now with 7 years of more experience spent songwriting or recording in studios since “Gracious”.

The album was produced by Tony Leach (Headwaiter), Tim Wheatley (Poker, House), Kirk Riddle (Jackie Lynton Band), and Doug Ferguson (Headwaiter), featuring a few tracks from each of their bands at the time. They recorded the during summer 1978 at Tim Wheatleys 8-track Chestnut Studios in Farnham, Surrey. “Headwaiter“ frequently rehearsed there and recorded a series of demos.

Sandys backing vocal arrangements are frequent throughout “Loser“ and “Believer In Dreams“ he can also be heard closely playing the 2nd drum kit and acoustic guitar.

Whilst live, Sandy managed drums, vocals, keyboards, piano, and more, a testament to Sandys multi-instrumentalism.

Note: An instrumental concept album recorded in London 1975, Andrew Pryce Jackman producing. Martin Briley and Sandy frequently collaborated on demo recordings and session work, Martin appearing on both Sandys LPs. Sandy and his backing vocals are featured on the last track "Poly Delta and The Ocean". Although recording was completed, the album remained unreleased until 2022.
